The operating system is the interface between the hardware and the user , the operating system also serves as a control program in order to avoid errors and the use of computer resource management contained in the computer system and providing services to the user making it easier for users to operate the computer .

Operating system is the first software contained on computer memory when the computer starts . While other software will be run after running the operating system first. After the operating system will do service to the software. Some services are normally done by the operating system , namely :
  1. Access Disk
  2. Memory Management , Computer Operating Systems guarantees other software applications can use memory , performs input and output to other equipment , and have access to the file system .
  3. Task scheduling , if there are several programs running concurrently operating system will set the exact schedule , so that these programs do not crash and can run as procedure.
  4. User interface settings

The existence of the operating system , the software does not need to be working on such tasks . Part of the operating system that performs the core tasks is called Kernel .

The operating system generally consists of several parts :
  1. Boot mechanism . that is put into the Kernel Memory
  2. Kernel , which is the core of an Operating system
  3. Command Interpreter or shell , which reads input from the user
  4. Libraries , as a provider of basic and standard set of functions that can be called by other applications
  5. Driver , useful for interacting with external hardware .

There are so many kinds of operating systems that we can find in the market . Some are very expensive , some of which some are distributed free of charge . Some Examples of Computer Operating Systems are :
  • Windows
  • Linux
  • MacOS ( Macintosh Operating System)
  • Solaris
  • Garuda OS ( made ​​in Indonesia ) , etc.
